Survey of literature for secondary students grades Emphasis on critical analysis, evaluation, and use of books in various genres. Course Description: This course is an introduction to the multiple genres of contemporary young adult literature. You will read a range of YAL texts written by award-winning authors, which we will discuss from the perspectives of genre, theme, representations of adolescence and adulthood, and approaches to interpretation.
Now that the first week of the fall semester is in the books, I feel like I should be able to take a deep breath [ inhale. Yet in true paranoid-teacher fashion, I woke up at on this Saturday morning thinking about all the things I needed to get done before Monday. Does that feeling ever go away?
The most difficult thing about designing this course was the choice of novels to be discussed in class. Because of this, I feel that there is a lack of novels focused on issues of race and class, but I will certainly make sure to cover these issues during the semester. As always, all comments and suggestions are more than welcome.
